Paintings or photographs depicting flowing water — waterfalls, rivers, gentle streams, or rain — should be placed on the north or northeast wall. The north is the zone of Kubera (wealth) and the Water element. Flowing water symbolizes unobstructed cash flow and continuous prosperity. The water in the painting should appear to flow inward toward the home, not outward.

East wall placement is acceptable as it combines the Water imagery with morning sunlight activation. The east is neutral for Water element and does not create elemental conflict.

South is the direction of Yama and Fire energy — placing Water imagery here creates elemental conflict (Water vs Fire). Southeast is Agni's corner — water imagery here symbolically extinguishes the kitchen fire and digestive energy, causing health and financial problems.

Principle & Context
Flowing water is the most potent symbol of continuous prosperity in Vastu. When placed on the north wall — the domain of Kubera and the Water element — a waterfall or river painting creates a symbolic channel for wealth to flow into the household. The water must be depicted as clean, flowing, and moving inward.
