Principle & Context
The Southwest is the earth-element zone of maximum weight-bearing capacity — the most fundamental spatial principle in both residential and commercial Vastu. For retail, this means the main storage room, godown, and bulk inventory MUST occupy the SW. The counterpart is equally important: the NE must be kept absolutely clear. This heavy-SW / light-NE diagonal is the energetic spine of any successful commercial space.
Common Violations
Main storage room or godown in the NE corner
Traditional consequence: The most severe commercial Vastu defect. The sacred Ishaan corner is crushed under inventory weight — prana cannot enter, new customers are energetically repelled, business growth halts completely. Classical texts compare this to placing a mountain over a sacred spring.
Heavy inventory stacked along the North wall
Traditional consequence: Kubera's wealth corridor is physically and energetically blocked. Cash flow stagnates, payments are delayed, and financial prosperity is literally 'walled off' from the business.
Storage room occupying the East zone
Traditional consequence: Customer entry energy from the East is absorbed by the storage mass. Footfall drops, the shop feels 'closed' even when open, and the morning growth energy never reaches the sales floor.

Relative to Modern Vastu
Vedic tradition ranks SW storage as the single most important commercial Vastu rule — more critical than entrance direction, desk facing, or any other pattern. Fix the SW first, then address everything else.
Maharashtrian tradition adds that the storage room door should face North or East — when the godown opens, wealth energy should flow from the store toward the sales floor, not away from it.
Tamil tradition adds that the heaviest item in the store should be placed in the innermost SW corner — a gradient of mass from the NE (lightest) to the deepest SW corner (heaviest). Not just SW placement but SW-concentrated density.
Telugu tradition connects commercial storage to fortress architecture — the SW godown is both the strongest and most protected part of the shop. High-value inventory should be in the deepest SW for security.

Gujarati tradition adds a specific ritual: when first loading the SW godown, start with the heaviest item and place it in the innermost SW corner first. Each subsequent item is placed progressively toward the center. This creates a 'mountain' of stock radiating from the deep SW.
Bengali tradition adds that the godown should have a separate entrance on the S or W side — stock loading/unloading should not pass through the N/E customer entrance. The supply chain flows through the heavy half.
Kalinga tradition adds that the godown entrance should have a threshold (Deli) — stepping up into the store symbolically enters the earth-element domain. A flat, threshold-less godown entrance weakens the boundary between the commercial and storage zones.
Sikh-Vedic tradition adds that the SW godown should be well-organized — not chaotic. An organized SW store creates stable business foundations; a chaotic SW store creates business instability despite correct placement.
