The North Wall Padas
Padas 3-5 (Mukhya, Bhallata, Griharakshita) are auspicious on North wall
Local term: North wall pada / Kubera position (North wall pada / Kubera position / Pada)
North wall Pada 4 (Kubera) is the most commercially impactful Vastu diagnostic. Real estate agents in Vastu-conscious markets (Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra) explicitly market 'Kubera Pada' entrances. Modern Vastu software can calculate pada positions from floor plan dimensions automatically.
Unique: Modern practice often overlooks Kerala's 9-pada variant and Bengali's 4-pada simplification — standardizing on the 8-pada system. This standardization is practical but erases important regional nuances.

The Rule in Modern Vastu
Ideal
N
On the North wall, padas 3 (Mukhya), 4 (Bhallata), and 5 (Griharakshita) are auspicious for the main entrance. Pada 4 (Bhallata/Kubera's segment) is the single most auspicious entrance position in all of Vastu — it directly faces the wealth deity.
Acceptable
N
Pada 6 (Soma) on the North wall is neutral — neither specifically auspicious nor harmful. It can serve if padas 3-5 are structurally impossible.
Prohibited
Pada 1 (corner with NW) and Pada 8 (corner with NE) on the North wall are inauspicious — they sit on energy joints. Pada 2 (Bhudhar) carries mixed energy. Never place the main entrance on a corner pada.
Sub-Rules
- Entrance on North wall Pada 4 (Kubera) — most auspicious▲ Critical
- Entrance on North wall Pada 3 (Mukhya)▲ Major
- Entrance on North wall Pada 5 (Griharakshita)▲ Major
- Entrance on North wall corner padas (1 or 8)▼ Major

Principle & Context

The North wall's pada system is the most studied in Vastu because North faces Kubera (the deity of wealth). Pada 4 on the North wall is considered the single most auspicious door position — it literally faces the God of Wealth. This is one of the first things serious Vastu consultants check.
Common Violations
Main entrance on North wall Pada 1 (corner Roga)
Traditional consequence: Health issues, especially chronic diseases, immune system weakness
Main entrance on North wall Pada 2 (Naga)
Traditional consequence: Snake energy — deception, hidden enemies, trust issues in relationships
Entrance centered between two padas (straddles the boundary)
Traditional consequence: Confusion, inability to commit to decisions, contradictory fortune
How Other Traditions Compare
Relative to Modern Vastu
North Indian tradition has the strongest commercial impact — properties with Pada 4 (Kubera) entrances command 10-20% real estate premiums in markets where Vastu is valued. This is a directly measurable economic consequence of a Vastu principle.
In Hemadpanthi Wada construction, the North wall pada analysis was done BEFORE the wall was built — the door position determined the entire wall's construction sequence. This upfront precision made post-construction remedies unnecessary.
Tamil tradition's use of 9 or 16 sub-pada divisions for the North wall provides approximately 2x finer placement resolution than the standard 8-pada system. This granularity is especially important for narrow urban plots where the North wall may be only 6-8 meters wide.
Kakatiya tradition placed the treasury vault (Bhandara) immediately behind the North wall's Kubera Pada — aligning the entrance's wealth energy directly with the treasure storage. This architectural alignment of function and Vastu is uniquely practical.
Jain Vastu uniquely distinguishes between material wealth (Dravya Dhana) and spiritual wealth (Dharma Dhana) — the Kubera Pada is valued for attracting both types, unlike purely materialistic interpretations.
Kerala's preference for Pada 3 (Mukhya — 'the chief') over Pada 4 (Kubera — 'wealth') is a significant philosophical divergence. It reflects the Kerala tradition's emphasis on balanced well-being over maximal wealth — a value system embedded in the architectural mathematics.
Gujarat's merchant (Vaishya) communities developed the most commercially oriented interpretation of the Kubera Pada — the ornate Haveli entrance facade is essentially an architectural prayer to Kubera, designed to attract trade wealth.
Bengali tradition's 4-pada simplification means the 'Kubera zone' is broader (1/4 of wall vs 1/8) — making it easier to achieve a Kubera entrance in practice. This pragmatic approach reflects Bengal's urban housing realities.
The Ratna Bhandara (gem treasury) of Jagannath Temple Puri — one of India's most famous treasuries — is on the North side, aligned with Kubera Pada principles. This is the most prominent surviving example of Kubera-aligned architectural wealth placement.
In Gurdwara design, the community treasury and donation areas are placed toward the North — scaling the Kubera Pada principle from domestic to institutional architecture.
Terms in Modern Vastu
Universal:
Remedies & Solutions
If the door cannot be shifted to Pada 3-5, a Kubera Yantra on the inner wall and a brass nameplate on the door provide symbolic alignment.
Modern VastuShift the door opening to align with Pada 3, 4, or 5 — even a few inches can cross a pada boundary
If door cannot be moved, install a secondary entrance (garden gate, side door) aligned with an auspicious pada
Place a Kubera Yantra near the entrance to invoke wealth energy regardless of pada position
Remedies from other traditions
Kubera Yantra on the inner wall if the door is not on Pada 4. Gold or brass nameplate on the door enhances Kubera's wealth connection.
Vedic VastuAdjust door orientation to face Uttar — Hemadpanthi stone remediation
