Yantra Placement (Sri Yantra)
The Sri Yantra (Shri Chakra) is the supreme sacred geometry — nine interlocking
Local term: श्री यंत्र — उत्तर-पूर्व (Śrī Yantra — Uttara-Pūrva)
Modern Vastu widely recommends the Sri Yantra as a powerful Vastu remedy for the NE zone. The emphasis is on quality (properly engraved copper or crystal) and placement (level, elevated, NE). Some consultants recommend specific Yantras for specific Vastu deficiencies — Vastu Yantra, Kuber Yantra, etc.
Source: Contemporary Vastu Practice; Yantra Shastra
Unique: Modern practice has expanded Yantra usage to include deficiency-specific Yantras — Vastu Yantra for structural defects, Kuber Yantra for financial zones, etc.

The Rule in Modern Vastu
Ideal
NE, E
Properly engraved Sri Yantra in NE on level, elevated surface, per modern Vastu consensus integrating classical Alankara prescriptions with contemporary interior design practice — the architect must verify proper placement and condition for full energetic benefit.
Acceptable
N, NNE, ENE
E or N placement. Deficiency-specific Yantras as supplements.
Prohibited
S, SW, SE
Placing yantra placement (sri yantra) in S (Yama's zone) or SW (Nairuti's zone) or SE (Agni's zone) violates Modern Vastu principles — the contemporary Vastu consensus synthesizing classical prescriptions warn against this placement as it disrupts the directional energy balance that the architect must maintain for the dwelling's wellbeing.
Sub-Rules
- Sri Yantra placed in NE or E on elevated, clean surface — cosmic geometry amplified in the divine corner▲ Major
- Sri Yantra consecrated (Prana Pratishtha) by a qualified priest — activated geometric power▲ Moderate
- Sri Yantra placed in SW or S — cosmic geometry in earth-heavy or dissolution zones▼ Major
- Sri Yantra tilted, cracked, or neglected — geometric perfection compromised▼ Major

Principle & Context

The Sri Yantra (Shri Chakra) is the supreme sacred geometry — nine interlocking triangles encoding cosmic creation, consciousness, and matter. Place it in the NE or E on a clean, elevated, perfectly level surface. The Yantra must maintain geometric perfection — any damage compromises its function. Consecration (Prana Pratishtha) activates it fully. Never place in SW/S where the refined Akasha energy is suppressed.
Common Violations
Sri Yantra placed in SW or S — cosmic geometry in inauspicious zones
Traditional consequence: The Sri Yantra's refined Akasha energy is overwhelmed by the Southwest's heavy Prithvi energy — the cosmic geometry is energetically crushed. The South placement channels the Yantra's reception toward Yama's zone — the amplification function is reversed. The Yantra becomes an energetic drain rather than source.
Sri Yantra tilted, cracked, or geometrically compromised
Traditional consequence: The Yantra's power derives from geometric perfection — every triangle, circle, and point must maintain precise proportional relationships. A damaged Yantra generates distorted energy patterns — the cosmic order it represents is broken, and the distortion radiates through the dwelling.
How Other Traditions Compare
Relative to Modern Vastu
Vedic tradition combines Sri Yantra geometry with Shri Sukta sonic activation — the geometric and phonetic dimensions reinforce each other.
Maharashtra's tradition of copper Sri Yantra as the first Devghar installation establishes the geometric foundation before deity idols are added.
Tamil Agama tradition treats the domestic Shri Chakra with the same installation protocols as temple Yantras — formal Prana Pratishtha is strongly recommended.
Kakatiya tradition's celebrated geometric sophistication extends to Yantra craftsmanship — precisely engraved copper Yantras from Warangal artisans.
Jain tradition substitutes specific Jain Yantras (Navadevata, Siddhachakra) — same geometric meditation principle but with Jain cosmological encoding.
Kerala Tantric tradition has the most rigorous Yantra installation protocols — formal consecration is considered mandatory, not optional.
Gujarati Haveli tradition integrates Yantra patterns architecturally — carved into stone panels as permanent sacred geometry in the dwelling.
Bengali Tantra tradition places the Sri Yantra behind the deity idol — creating a geometric amplifier for the deity's anthropomorphic form.
Kalinga tradition applies Shilpa Prakash's mathematical precision to Yantra placement — the same geometric exactitude as temple architecture.
Sikh tradition's Ik Onkar symbol serves a parallel geometric-symbolic function — sacred geometry representing divine unity.

Remedies & Solutions
Relocate decorative element to the Northeast zone per Modern tradition
Modern VastuPlace the Sri Yantra in the NE of the Pooja room or study on a clean, elevated surface — ensure it is perfectly level and properly oriented
If the Sri Yantra is damaged, replace it — a cracked or bent Yantra should not be displayed. Dispose of the damaged Yantra respectfully through water immersion
Have the Sri Yantra consecrated (Prana Pratishtha) by a qualified Acharya — this activates the Yantra's full geometric potential beyond its passive form
Recite the Shri Sukta or Lalita Sahasranama while facing the Sri Yantra — sonic activation through mantra amplifies the geometric energy
Remedies from other traditions
Relocate decorative element to the Ishanya zone per Vedic tradition
Vedic VastuRelocate decorative element to the Ishan zone per Maharashtrian tradition
HemadpanthiClassical Sources
“The Shri Yantra — the supreme Yantra of Mahalakshmi — shall be installed in the Ishanya Kona of the Griha or Devagriha. Its nine Trikona (triangles) interlocking represent the Nava Shakti — the nine cosmic powers that sustain creation. The Ishanya placement connects the Yantra to the cosmic Bindu (point) from which all geometry emanates.”
“The Yantra is Devata in geometric form — it does not require anthropomorphic representation to embody divine energy. The Shri Chakra's placement in the Ishanya or Purva of the Griha establishes a cosmic antenna — the Yantra receives and amplifies subtle energies that the dwelling's occupants cannot perceive directly but experience as well-being.”
“The Shri Yantra's installation in the Griha follows the Prana Pratishtha Vidhi (consecration ritual) when performed by a Tantra Acharya. Even without formal consecration, the Yantra's geometric perfection generates Sthiti Shakti (stability power) — its mathematical precision creates order in the Space element of whatever zone it occupies.”
“Vishvakarma revealed the Shri Yantra as the Griha Raksha Yantra (house protection geometry). Its placement in the Ishanya generates a Chakra Suraksha (geometric shield) that extends to the dwelling's boundaries. The Yantra must be perfectly level and centered — geometric perfection is its source of power.”
