How We Score Your Space
Every score is computed from 1,333 Vastu patterns drawn from 8 classical Sanskrit texts spanning 3,000 years. No opinions. No shortcuts. Just the original wisdom, structured for precision.
“Perfection in Vastu is the direction, not the destination. Even the finest temples carry compromises — what matters is how thoughtfully you align with the principles.”
— Principle from Brihat Samhita, adapted for modern practice
This is why our scores range from approximately 8 to 92 — not 0 to 100. No space achieves perfect Vastu, and no space is beyond improvement. Your score tells you where you are on the journey and exactly what to do next.
We check each room against 1,333 patterns across 21 categories, drawing from 11 regional Vastu traditions. The result isn't a judgment — it's a map.
Four Layers of Vastu Scoring
Each layer represents a different level of influence over your space's energy
Layout — Where Rooms Are Placed
The foundation. Determined by your floor plan.
Which direction does your kitchen face? Where is the master bedroom? Is the entrance in an auspicious pada? These are the directional rules from the Vastu Purusha Mandala — the most impactful decisions, and the hardest to change.
Setup — How Key Items Are Positioned
The first optimizations. Can be changed today.
Which direction does your stove face? Is your bed headboard against the South wall? Is there a mirror reflecting your bed? These are the high-impact interior choices that you CAN control.
Decor — Colors, Art, Plants, Objects
The finishing touches. Zero to low cost.
What color are your walls? Is there a water painting on the North wall? A Tulsi plant at the entrance? A stopped clock? These decorative and symbolic patterns carry genuine Vastu significance.
Practice — Daily and Seasonal Rituals
The ongoing relationship with your space.
Lighting a lamp at sunset. Keeping the Northeast clutter-free. Seasonal adjustments for monsoon and Diwali. These practices maintain the energy your layout and interiors establish.
How Your Score Is Calculated
Find Applicable Patterns
When you place a room — say, your kitchen in the Southeast — our engine finds every pattern relevant to that room type. A kitchen matches 220 room-placement patterns plus universal structural, entrance, and color rules. Each pattern has a direction preference: ideal, acceptable, or prohibited.
Score Each Pattern Against Your Direction
Each pattern assigns a score from -20 (prohibited direction) to +20 (ideal direction) across 16 compass sub-directions. Your kitchen in the Southeast — the fire corner — receives positive scores from kitchen patterns. A kitchen in the Northeast would receive negative scores because it places fire in the water zone.
Weight by Severity
Not all patterns are equal. A critical rule (like 'Kitchen in SE') carries full weight (1.0×). A major rule carries 0.7×. A moderate rule carries 0.4×. Minor and advisory rules contribute less. This ensures the most important classical principles dominate your score.
Normalize with a Natural Curve
We combine all weighted scores and apply a mathematical curve that mirrors how Vastu works in practice: easy to reach 'good' (60-70), progressively harder to reach 'excellent' (80+), and impossible to reach 'perfect.' This curve ensures your score is realistic and honest — not inflated.
Combine All Rooms
Your overall score is the weighted average of all room scores. Rooms with more pattern matches contribute more to the overall. The entrance is auto-scored based on its facing direction. Multi-floor properties also include stacking analysis (bathroom above kitchen? staircase aligned?).
What the Numbers Mean
11 Traditions, One Score
Vastu is not monolithic. 11 regional traditions interpret the same classical principles differently.
Your default score uses Modern Consensus — the interpretation most Vastu consultants agree on today. But Kerala Thachu Shastra scores your kitchen differently than Tamil Agama. Bengali Vishwakarma has different bedroom preferences than North Indian Vedic.
With the Complete tier, you can see how your home scores across all 11 traditions — and choose the one that matches your family's heritage.
The traditions represented: Vedic North Indian, Maharashtrian, Tamil Agama, Telugu Kakatiya, Kannada Jain-Hoysala, Kerala Thachu, Gujarati Jain, Bengali Vishwakarma, Kalinga (Odia), Sikh-Vedic, and Modern Consensus.
Built on Trust, Not Trends
8 Classical Texts
Every pattern traces to a specific chapter and verse in the original Sanskrit texts: Manasara, Mayamatam, Brihat Samhita, and more.
1333+ Patterns
1,333 structured patterns across 21 categories — the most comprehensive digital Vastu rule library built to date.
Deterministic Scoring
Same layout, same tradition = same score. Always. No AI randomness, no consultant mood. Your score is mathematically reproducible.
